Wheatstone LNG is a planned liquefied natural gas plant at Ashburton North, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west of Onslow, Western Australia. The LNG plant will have an annual capacity of 15 million tonnes of LNG.[1] At the first stage, the plant will have two LNG trains, with a capacity of 4.3million tonnes per year each, and a gas plant.[2][3] It will be supplied from the Wheatstone, Iago, Julimar and Brunello offshore gas fields.[1] Final investment decision will be made in 2011.[2][3]
Front-end engineering and design works of the project is being done by three companies.Bechtel Oil & Gas Chemicals Inc.[2] is undertaking the design of the onshore gas plant, while Intecsea Pty Ltd is designing the subsea infrastructure and trunkline and Technip Pty Ltd is designing the offshore processing platform.[2][4][5] Geotechnical consultation for the design and construction of the LNG plant and associated infrastructure will be provided by Golder Associates.[6] Ready-for-start-up operations support services will be provided by ODL, a subsidiary of Wood Group.[7]
The project will be developed and operated by [[Chevron Corporation|Chevron Australia Pty. Ltd.], which currently owns 75.75% of the project. Apache Julimar Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the Apache Corporation, owns 8% and KUFPEC Australia (Julimar) Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company, owns 16.25%% of the project.[8][9][10] Tokyo Electric Power Company is expected to buy 11.25% stake in the project.[3]
